MacBook Air, Lion OS and Apple Superdrive: don't buy or try using this combination

It doesn't work.

I have tried two external Apple superdrives + an external LG CD/DVD drive.

None have worked with my Macbook Air [MBA] (11inch, 64GB with 2GB RAM) & Intel Core 2 Duo) since installing Lion OS.

They work normally if I uninstall Lion OS and go back to Snow Leopard.

I can "see" the drives in Systems Info: showing up in the USB device section.

iTunes starts automatically when a CD or DVD is inserted into either optic drive device.

But I can't "see" the drive in Finder nor iTunes.

Will try "remote device" sharing option on the MBA, to set up an optic drive link with my Asus Win 7 laptop.

Fingers crossed, but very annoying and nothing at Apple's support site, despite many reports in international blogs.

  1. Finally got Remote Disc sharing to work on my 2010 Macbook Air (Lion OS, upgraded from Snow Leopard).

Connected to ASUS PC running Windows 7.

    Main issue:
In Sharing options, DVD/CD Sharing option was not visible until I booted into Safe mode (shift key on boot) and was able to select it, then reboot to Lion OS.

Considering Lion OS had disabled my Superdrive (not appearing in Finder or iTunes, but iTunes opens when disc inserted and recognized in USB Systems Info: may be I'm missing something?), this is good news!

  2. So, SuperDrive working again in Lion OS.

Possibly solved by a sneaking update from Apple.

Or possibly from kicking into safe mode in Lion OS for one boot, then loading as/normal.

Anyway, pleased it is now working!
