Shoes: Oxford, Derby or Brogue?

Oxford => laces tied under the vamp: "closed lacing".


Derby   => laces tied over the vamp: "open lacing". Not considered as formal as the Oxford.


Vamp:   => section of the upper part of the shoe that allows the shoe to be held on the foot.

Brogue:  => multi-sectioned upper, decorated with perforations: brogueing


Full brogue

  • Also referred to as "Wingtips", particularly in the US



Semi brogue


Quarter brogue
